Kelowna Christian School is an independent evangelical Christian school. The school is currently interviewing qualified candidates for CERTIFIED/SPECIAL EDUCATION ASSISTANT (CEA/SEA) positions (Full-time and Casual On Call) for immediate placement.
These positions provide support for students who have a special education designation, meeting the Ministry of Education’s Special Education funding criteria. Selected CEAs/SEAs will have specialized training to meet the assessed needs of students, many of which will be academic in nature, but in some cases may include visual, hearing, or physical impairment, or behavioural challenges.
Under the guidance of the teacher and Special Education Coordinator, the successful candidates will support regular classroom programs and provide assistance to students in kindergarten thru grade 12 with special education needs.
Preferred candidates will have a minimum of one year full-time or two years part-time training in special education/learning assistance at the college/university level plus additional courses/seminars dealing with a specialized area (e.g. behaviour intervention, autism, FASD, diabetes, etc.). Having experience operating a mechanical lift to assist wheel-chair bound individuals is an asset, but not a requirement.
Special Education Assistants will have some or all of the following duties and responsibilities:
Full-time positions of 32.5 hours per week will be scheduled to work Monday – Friday, between 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM. The wage range for these positions is $16.63 – $22.09 per hour; rate dependent upon candidate’s training, skills and experience.
