We are accepting applications for a “Vice Principal of Learning” at our Secondary Campus for the 2020-2021 school year.

We are seeking a visionary and learning-centered leader to work collaboratively on a campus leadership team providing instructional leadership and school management for our multi-ethnic Secondary campus. The Secondary campus currently serves 330 students from Grades 9-12. Richmond Christian School is a growing community dedicated to student learning that inspires students to joyfully serve Christ in all aspects of life. We are passionate about “What’s best for kids.” There are over 100 different churches represented in Richmond Christian School, a non-denominational Christian school with a covenantal enrollment policy governed by a 10-member board of directors representing the members of the Richmond Christian School Society.  Richmond Christian School was founded on a Reformed worldview of Christianity, which shapes our vision.

The Secondary Campus Vice Principal of Learning will assist the campus Principal in leading and empowering our dynamic and innovative Secondary faculty and staff team of close to 50 members.  The Vice Principal will report directly to the campus Principal and work collaboratively with the campus leadership team and the other two campus Vice Principals of Learning to provide leadership to the school community in the area of learning and teaching. The Vice Principal of Learning will need to be a strong collaborator, able to clearly cast vision, execute a strategic plan, and have strong interpersonal and presenting skills.

The successful candidate will have proven strengths in many of the duties and responsibilities that include:

  • Oversee, plan and implement all Ministry requirements in connection to the BC Education Plan,
  • Plan, implement, and lead Professional Development for teachers at the Secondary Campus and school wide in consultation with the Administration team to implement educational trends connected to the BC Ed Plan.
  • Collaborate with other RCS Campuses to ensure transitions, philosophy, and implementation of the educational program is intentional and harmonious at all campuses; areas of collaboration may be in Digital Citizenship, Report Cards, Core Competencies, Curricular Competencies, Scope and Sequence, Assessment, Integration of a Christian worldview, My School Management program upgrades and design etc.
  • Build a positive student culture in conjunction with all Secondary staff,
  • Display a passion for Christian education that is contagious,
  • Coordinate and facilitate the on-boarding of new teachers at the Secondary campus,
  • Coordinate and facilitate the recruitment, scheduling, and evaluation of Teachers-On-Call,
  • Report and update the Education Committee on educational plans and implementation as a member and participant of the Secondary Ed Committee,
  • Coordinate and implement course selection evenings for all high school students and their parents in conjunction with the principal and academic counsellor to create and strengthen partnership with parents and equip parents to be directly involved with their student’s growth in a healthy and positive way,
  • Work with Department Heads, while supporting and giving direction to Teachers in the area of curriculum development and growth for students in Grades 9-12, to promote the professional and academic growth of the teaching staff through staff and in-service training and personal contact.
  • Organize and implement Curriculum Parent Night’s to partner and educate parents on important educational changes and shifts that are occurring in BC and RCS,
  • Attend appropriate Professional Development activities and collaborate with Provincial contacts (SCSBC, MOE, FISA) to ensure that Richmond Christian School is current regarding educational trends and implementation,
  • Oversee extra-curricular activities within the school and work to bring them to fit within the mission and vision for the secondary campus,
  • Work collaboratively with the Principal, Administrative Assistant, Development Director and additional teachers on Graduation activities
  • The position will involve approximately 75% administrative time and 25% teaching time. The teaching responsibilities are to be determined with the candidate.

Required:
BC teaching certification (or the ability to hold such a certification)
Master’s degree (or working towards one)
Demonstrated school leadership (committee chair, vice principal, dept. chair, etc.)
Evidence of positive relationships with students, faculty and staff, and parents through references and current leadership practices
Evidence of strong written communication skills through quality of resume and attachments
Completed application package
Involvement in a Christian church

Preferred:
Minimum 5+ years teaching experience at the Secondary level
Experience teaching/leading in a Christian school
Any specialty training in assessment, curriculum and pedagogy, restorative practices, First Peoples Principals of Learning, and the integration of technology in learning
Knowledge of ‘21st century learning’
Knowledge of best practices related to Secondary curriculum, instruction, assessment, technology, and school community
