The BC Ed Plan is a compelling opportunity that can be implemented well to benefit our Christian school students. BC’s New Curriculum states curriculum is to be learner-centred and flexible and maintain a focus on literacy and math skills, while promoting deeper learning. Its educational purpose is to move away from content-focus toward developing student competencies, and this means greater flexibility for teachers, while allowing space and time for students to develop personal skills while exploring their passions and interests.
As the plan is unveiled, SCSBC Directors of Learning Darren Spyksma and Greg Gerber are identifying how it harmonizes with the formational-learning-experience approaches embraced in Christian schools and are creating articles, workshops and resources to support educators as they work to implement the new curriculum.
