    Reports to: Lead Principal
    Employment Type: 0.8 – 1.0 FTE
    Salary Range: $48,000 – $77,000 / $60,000 – $96,000
    Start Date: August 1, 2026

    Role Summary

    In partnership with the Assistant Principal (Learning), Director of Community & Culture and the Director of Inclusive Education, the Elementary Principal provides spiritual, educational, and administrative leadership for the Kindergarten–Grade 5 program at Maple Ridge Christian School. This role ensures a thriving, Christ-centered learning environment, strong parent relationships, and consistent support for teachers and students. The principal is responsible for overseeing instruction, student well-being, staffing support, curriculum alignment, school culture, and daily operations within the elementary division.

     

    Key Responsibilities

     

    1. Spiritual & Community Leadership

    • Promote a Christ-centered environment rooted in MRCS’s mission and biblical throughlines.
    • Support spiritual formation opportunities for students and teachers.
    • Support the consistent implementation of Teaching for Transformation in collaboration with the Assistant Principal.
    • Model Christian character in leadership, communication, and decision-making.
    • Support chapel planning and K–5 spiritual formation in collaboration with the Director of Community & Culture.

    2. Instructional Leadership (K–5)

    • Lead the K–5 instructional program in partnership with the Assistant Principal (Learning).
    • Ensure curriculum alignment with BC Ministry requirements and MRCS faith integration expectations.
    • Support teacher instructional practices, class environment, and differentiation.
    • Conduct teacher evaluations and support professional growth plans.
    • Lead grade-team meetings and collaborative planning efforts.

    3. Student Well-Being & Behaviour

    • Oversee student behaviour systems and K–5 discipline, prioritizing restorative practices.
    • Coordinate behavioural support with teachers, EAs, and Inclusive Education.
    • Communicate with parents regarding behavioural concerns in a timely and caring way.
    • Oversee attendance monitoring and follow-up.

    4. Staffing & Human Resources

    • Participate in hiring and onboarding for K–5 teachers, EAs, and support staff.
    • Plan teacher assignments, supervision schedules, and duty rotations.
    • Provide coaching and mentorship to new and early-career teachers.
    • Collaborate with the Lead Principal on staffing projections

    5. Parent Communication & Community Engagement

    • Serve as the primary parent-facing leader for the Elementary program.
    • Support staff in providing weekly or biweekly parent communication as needed.
    • Address concerns with clarity, empathy, and alignment to school policy.
    • Support retention by fostering trust and strong relationships with families

    6. Operational Leadership

    • Oversee creation of the Elementary master timetable and supervision schedule.
    • Support organization of field trips, events, and experiential learning.
    • Coordinate report cards, parent-teacher conferences, student-led conferences and class list development.
    • Ensure safety protocols, emergency procedures, and supervision standards are met.

    7. Collaboration

    • Participate in the K–12 Educational Leadership Team (ELT).
    • Meet weekly or biweekly with the Lead Principal.
    • Collaborate with:
      • Assistant Principal (Learning) on curriculum + instruction
      • Director of Inclusive Education on support plans
      • Director of Community & Culture on spiritual formation and culture
    • Share feedback and learning needs based on classroom observations and teacher discussions.

    8. Administrative Stewardship

    • Prepare and monitor the Elementary budget.
    • Communicate timely budget updates to staff.
    • Review maintenance and facility needs with the Facilities Manager.
    • Ensure compliance with Ministry of Education requirements.
    • Maintain accurate records of student behaviour, attendance, and support plans.

     

    Qualifications

    • BC Teaching Certificate or Independent School Certificate
    • Substantial teaching experience in K–5
    • Demonstrated leadership capacity in Christian school settings
    • Strong relational, organizational, and communication skills
    • Experience with restorative discipline and instructional leadership frameworks
    • Ability to lead teams collaboratively and constructively
