    About Nanaimo Christian School

Nanaimo Christian School is a thriving JK to Grade 12 independent Christian school serving more than 700 students on Vancouver Island. Located across three buildings on one growing campus, NCS exists to help students belong, believe, and achieve.

As our school continues to grow, so does our dependence on strong, secure, and forward-thinking technology systems. Continuing the work of our current team, we are seeking an experienced IT Manager to lead the operational health of our technology infrastructure while partnering closely with our Director of IT (school administrator) to support long-term planning and innovation.

    Position Overview

The IT Manager oversees the daily operation, maintenance, security, and improvement of technology systems across Nanaimo Christian School. This role ensures that staff and students can rely on stable technology systems while supporting future infrastructure growth.

The IT Manager will work closely with the Director of IT, who provides leadership in educational technology strategy and instructional innovation. This role focuses primarily on infrastructure, systems management, cybersecurity, device deployment, operational support, and execution of strategic technology initiatives.

This is a hands-on, single-operator role responsible for the full lifecycle of IT operations across the school. The successful candidate will take ownership of both day-to-day support and the consistent execution of critical infrastructure processes.

Nanaimo Christian School operates within a Google Workspace for Education environment. Previous experience and proficiency with this platform and its integrated tools is considered a significant asset for this role.

    Key Responsibilities

    Infrastructure and Systems Management

    • Oversee all network infrastructure across three campus buildings, including wireless systems, switches, servers, internet connectivity, firewalls, and backup systems
    • Maintain reliable uptime and performance of school-wide technology systems
    • Manage device deployment, repairs, inventory, and lifecycle planning for student and staff technology
    • Oversee classroom technology, printers, phone systems, and related operational technology needs
    • Maintain documentation for infrastructure systems and processes

    Technology Support

    • Provide responsive day-to-day technical support for faculty, staff, and administration
    • Oversee ticketing systems and support workflows
    • Supervise and coordinate third-party IT vendors when required
    • Support onboarding and offboarding of employee technology accounts and systems access
    • Ensure staff are supported with practical troubleshooting and timely service

    Cybersecurity and Risk Management

    • Maintain cybersecurity systems and protocols
    • Monitor data protection practices and privacy compliance
    • Lead backup systems, disaster recovery planning, and risk mitigation efforts
    • Ensure licensing, software compliance, and vendor contracts remain current

    Strategic Planning and Collaboration

    • Partner with the Director of IT (education)  to execute long-term technology plans
    • Assist in preparing annual technology budgets and infrastructure forecasts
    • Support campus expansion planning related to technology infrastructure
    • Research and recommend operational improvements and emerging technologies
    • Collaborate with school leadership to ensure technology supports organizational priorities
    • Success in this role means stable, secure, and well-documented systems where critical processes are consistently executed, and issues are prevented before they impact staff or students

    Qualifications

    • Degree, diploma, or certifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Administration, or a related field preferred
    • Minimum five years of relevant IT experience
    • Experience managing networks, cybersecurity, device systems, and technical support operations
    • Experience supervising technical staff or external contractors is considered an asset
    • Experience in a school environment is preferred but not required
    • Strong project management, communication, and organizational skills
    • Valid Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector)

    Personal Attributes

    • Brings a disciplined, detail-oriented approach to routine operations, treating critical processes (backups, monitoring, updates, documentation) as non-negotiable. Pairs this reliability with the ability to thoughtfully improve systems—identifying better ways of doing things and implementing change without introducing unnecessary risk
    • Thrives in structured environments where consistency, reliability, and adherence to process are essential to success
    • Strong problem solver who remains calm under pressure
    • Service-oriented and relational in working with staff and students
    • Highly organized and proactive
    • Able to translate technical issues into clear language for non-technical users
    • Demonstrated alignment with the mission of Nanaimo Christian School and a willingness to actively support the school’s Christian faith commitments and community standards
