Role: School Counselor for Grade 6-12
Position: 0.4 FTE
Salary Range: $31,570 – $38,000 (dependent on education, qualifications, and experience)
The school counsellor will provide one-on-one and small-group counselling for students and will provide programming to educate students on overall wellbeing.
Specific duties
- Perform short-term counselling and crisis intervention for students as needed
- Support students to develop and maintain healthy relationships and resolve conflicts
- Provide programming to educate students regarding well-being issues
- Consult with teachers and explore possible strategies and solutions for the concerns that arise to support students
- Contribute to building community supports to increase belonging
- Maintain confidential records of interactions with students
- Guidance for teachers in identifying students who may require additional support and intervention
- Identify areas of concern with students and develop strategies to improve the interactions between students
- To implement restorative justice procedures following discipline incidents
- To act as a coordinated and integrated support team to meet individual needs
- To act as a coordinated and integrated support team to meet group or grade level needs
- To facilitate communication with parents from the integrated support team to offer consistent and coordinated advice in supporting their children
- Help families access resources to support their children as necessary
- Consult with/refer to outside agencies regarding necessary supports for student success
Qualifications
- Masters in Counselling or equivalent
- Registered Counsellor, RCC or CCC
- Experience in education settings will be an asset
- Christian counselling or perspective courses will be an asset
