Role Summary
The Middle/High School Principal provides spiritual, educational, and administrative leadership for Grades 6–12 Program, MS Athletic Director and the HS Athletic Director. They ensure excellence in teaching, learning, student formation, staff development, and community engagement within the MS/HS divisions.
Key Responsibilities
1. Spiritual & Community Leadership
- Cultivate a Christ-centered school culture for Grades 6–12.
- Promote student and staff spiritual development through leadership presence, mentorship, and Christian worldview integration.
2. Instructional Leadership
- Lead teacher supervision, feedback, and formal evaluations for MS/HS.
- Support instructional improvement, collaborative teaching structures, and professional growth plans.
- Work closely with the Assistant Principal (Learning) to implement curriculum and assessment practices.
3. Staffing & Hiring
- Participate in hiring of MS/HS teachers and support staff.
- Determine teacher assignments and classroom placements.
- Support onboarding and mentorship of new staff.
4. Behaviour, Discipline & Student Support
- Oversee major discipline decisions, suspensions, and escalations.
- Provide support and guidance to the Assistant Principal (MS/HS) in daily discipline management.
- Work with Inclusive Education on behavioural interventions and support plans.
- Ensure restorative practices are embedded in discipline processes.
5. Communication & Parent Partnership
- Serve as the main administrative contact for MS/HS parental concerns.
- Maintain ongoing communication with families through updates, meetings, and events.
- Support student retention through relationship-building and proactive engagement.
6. Administrative Leadership & Scheduling
- Lead creation of MS/HS timetables and scheduling.
- Oversee communication systems for MS/HS staff, including weekly updates.
- Manage MS/HS assemblies, events, awards, and promotion/grad ceremonies.
- Ensure compliance with Ministry expectations for instruction and reporting in collaboration with the Associate Head of Schools (Director of Learning)
7. Collaboration
- Member of the Educational Leadership Team (ELT).
- Meet weekly with the Lead Principal for strategic and operational updates.
- Collaborate with:
- Assistant Principal (Learning)
- Director of Community & Culture
- Director of Inclusive Education
- Career and Post-Secondary Advisor
- Elementary Principal (for transitions and cross-divisional alignment)
8. Operational Stewardship
- Monitor MS/HS budgets related to learning resources and activities.
- Address facility, classroom, and space needs in coordination with the Facilities Manager and Lead Principal.
- Ensure safety procedures, emergency response readiness, and supervision plans are effective and properly executed.
9. Athletics Supervision & Coordination
- Provide divisional oversight for MS and HS athletics programs in alignment with MRCS mission, culture, and expectations.
- Meet regularly with the Middle School Athletic Director and High School Athletic Director to:
- Review upcoming seasons, schedules, and coaching assignments.
- Ensure program decisions align with school values, student well-being, and academic priorities.
- Discuss coaching performance, program needs, and team conduct.
- Monitor alignment with league rules, safety protocols, and eligibility guidelines.
- Support the Athletic Directors in handling parent concerns, escalating cases to the HOS when necessary.
- Provide leadership for behaviour expectations for athletes, spectators, and coaches at all MS/HS athletic events.
- Work collaboratively with the ADs on:
- Student-athlete discipline related to sports participation
- Team selection processes
- Facility scheduling with the Operations team
- Communication to families about athletics
- Ensure athletic programs integrate Christian character formation, sportsmanship, and restorative practices.
Qualifications
- BC Teaching Certificate and extensive teaching/leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of adolescent development.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams collaboratively.
- Ability to manage complex parent communication with grace and clarity.
