The Maple Ridge Christian School (MRCS) Head Custodian provides oversight of the student cleaning team and practical implementation of the daily cleaning and upkeep of the school buildings. The Head Custodian reports to the Facilities Manager and/or Lead Principal.

General Responsibilities

  1. Ensure cleanliness of the school property
  • oversee the student cleaning team from September – June.
    1. Scheduling work crew each week and making changes to suit student school schedules, activities and sick days.
    2. Completing student timesheets and submitting to the accounting team in a timely manner in order to meet pay schedule.
    3. Recruiting new students when required and coordinating/submitting required paperwork with the Finance office.
    4. Managing team members through consistent communication and goal-setting to make sure the team meets the cleanliness requirements and BC health standards.
    5. Onboard team members by providing WorkSafeBC training and orientation
  • In coordination with the student cleaning team:
    1. fulfil all cleaning duties as outlined in the janitorial requirements document
  • Keep campus clean and orderly for appearance and safety purposes
  • Ensure deeper cleaning needs are completed during designated school breaks

 

  1. Reporting
  • Follow up on janitorial requests in a timely manner
  • Provide reports as needed or requested by Lead Principal
  • Report any noted maintenance issues to the Facility Manager using the designated form

 

  1. Janitorial Supplies
  • Monitor, track, and order janitorial supplies
  • Test new supplies and equipment and makes recommendations for ordering

 

Qualifications

  • minimum 3 years experience in general janitorial/custodial or related field
  • ability to work within a team environment
  • ability to lead a team of student workers
  • physically able to move heavy objects
  • maintain confidentiality of information and records
  • proficiency in maintaining accurate records
  • proficiency in verbal and communication skills
  • WHMIS training (can be provided)
