Abbotsford Christian School, located in the Fraser Valley, is a well-established interdenominational school of 1200 students on three campuses: Elementary (preschool – grade 4), Middle (5-8), and Secondary (9-12).
Abbotsford Christian School is accepting applications for a LEARNING SUPPORT SERVICES COORDINATOR at the elementary campus. This is a full-time position commencing September 1, 2023.
The Learning Support Services Coordinator (Special Education & Learning Assistance) is responsible for developing student learning plans and individualized education plans and determining the appropriate supports needed to meet student learning needs. The coordinator is supervised by the campus principal and the Director of Learning Support Services, collaborates with other coordinators, and is assisted in development and implementation by teachers and educational assistants.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Bachelor of Education degree (or equivalent)
- Hold, or be eligible for, a valid BC Teaching Certificate and meet the requirements of the ACS Employment of Teachers Contract
- Minimum two years of successful classroom teaching
- University coursework in the following areas:
- Credentials in special education
- Assessment/testing theory and practice
- Strategies for teaching, adapting, and modifying the curriculum to meet the diverse needs of students
- Collaborative consultation
- In addition, courses in the following areas are recommended:
- Meeting the needs of students with specific exceptions (i.e., autism, developmental delays, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), etc.)
- Meeting the diverse behavioural needs in the classroom
- Computer technology for the classroom
- Non-violent de-escalation training
The applicant must:
- Have a clear understanding of Christian education
- Practice and demonstrate evidence of a strong commitment to the Christian Faith
- Practice strong collaboration skills and enjoy working in a team
- Have strong written and verbal communication skills
- Establish positive working relationships with school staff, community partners, families, and children
- Be able to lead and support staff confidently
- With colleagues, plan and maintain a learning environment that promotes the health, security, and well-being of children
- Maintain and establish clear understanding of LSS protocols and expectations
- Demonstrate a willingness to learn
