    Job Description

    The Middle School Principal’s main role is to lead and serve the staff, students, and families of the Middle School, creating a vibrant and caring campus community that points students to a personal, ongoing relationship with Jesus. The Middle School campus comprises grades 6, 7, and 8, with a student population of approximately 220 and a staff of 25. The leadership role is multifaceted and includes the following main areas of responsibility:

    • Curricular Leadership (in conjunction with the Director of Teaching and Learning)
      • Oversees the implementation of high-quality teaching, assessment, and reporting practices for the benefit of all students’ development, supported by proactive professional development
      • Plans for the successful completion of Ministry of Education educational requirements
    • Operational Leadership
      • Schedules classes, supervision, and school routines
      • In conjunction with the Facilities Manager, ensures a safe, secure, and clean learning environment
      • Ensures the campus meets Ministry of Education and City of Kelowna regulations
      • Stewards the various campus budgets and ordering
      • Oversees facility rentals
      • Acts as liaison between the school and First Lutheran Church
      • Acts as the campus Safe Schools representative
    • Spiritual Leadership
      • Encourages staff members’ spiritual focus and development
      • Oversees the core messaging and tone of chapel and other spiritual routines
      • Guides campus culture to live out the teachings of Jesus in love, grace, truth, and respect
    • Leadership of Staff
      • Encourages and develops staff as educational professionals
      • Gathers input and communicates direction and decisions through effective communication with staff, including, but not limited to, regular staff meetings
      • In conjunction with the Head of School, hires and onboards teaching staff, assigning staff to assignments which benefit the students, the overall balance of the school, and the staff member her/himself
      • Along with regular observations of teaching and school routines, conducts staff performance evaluations and feedback
      • Builds leadership capacity in the staff
    • Leadership of Students and Families
      • As part of the admissions process, interviews prospective families to determine alignment with the school’s vision, mission, core values, and faith foundation
      • Creates opportunities for families to build relationship with the school
      • Guides student discipline both proactively and reactively
      • Regularly communicates with families about school events, opportunities, and how the campus is living out its mission and core values
    • Leadership Team Member
      • Contributes to the Senior Leadership Team’s (SLT) input to the Head of School, collaborating with the other members of the SLT to help establish the direction, tone, and consistency of the KCS vision, mission, values, programs, and procedures.
    • This position may involve a partial teaching assignment.

     

    Preferred candidates will:

    1. Education & Experience
    • Master’s degree in Education, Leadership, or related field
    • Bachelor of Education or equivalent
    • Preference will be given to candidates with school leadership experience

    Compensation range: Up to $122,000, depending on experience.
