    Abbotsford Christian School, located in the Fraser Valley, is a well-established interdenominational school of 1200 students in three campuses: Elementary (preschool – grade 4), Middle (5-8), and Secondary (9-12).

    PHYSICAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION TEACHER – ELEMENTARY

    Abbotsford Christian Elementary School is now accepting applications for a part-time PHYSICAL AND HEALTH EDUCATION TEACHER at the elementary campus. This position is a part-time job share (0.40 FTE), salaried, and begins September 1, 2025.

    At Abbotsford Christian School, the elementary campus PE teacher recognizes the importance of physical and health education as an integral part of whole-child development and faith formation. The PE teacher is responsible for collaboratively planning and implementing the physical and health education program with a distinctively Christian vision for students in kindergarten through grade 4.

    This role involves teaching various physical activities, promoting students’ physical fitness, motor skills development, planning and organizing extracurricular and athletic events such as track and field, cross country, etc. The PE teacher creates a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters physical health and well-being.

    Specific qualifications include:

    • Evidence of a strong commitment to the Christian faith.
    • BA degree in Education (or equivalent), preferably with training in physical education, kinesiology, exercise science, or related experience.
    • A valid BC Teaching Certificate
    • A clear and compelling vision for a 21st Century Christian education specific to physical and health education.
    • An ability to foster a supportive learning environment that accommodates students with diverse learning needs, including those with disabilities, while promoting inclusivity and empathy.

     

    The ideal applicant must:

    • Demonstrate evidence of a deep and disciplined understanding of the Christian worldview.
    • Strong collaborative skills and a dedicated team player, able to effectively work with others to achieve common goals.
    • Demonstrate a willingness to work in a team environment in a progressive and creative school.
    • Foster a supportive and respectful learning environment.
    • Establish positive working relationships with school staff, community partners, families, and children.
    • Promote positive attitudes toward physical fitness, healthy lifestyles, and stewardship of the body as a temple of the Holy Spirit, encouraging students to honour God through their choices and habits.
    • Plan and lead structured physical education classes for elementary school students, incorporating activities that promote cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility, coordination, and sportsmanship.
    • Teach confidently fundamental movement skills through a variety of games, drills, and exercises, while emphasizing teamwork, cooperation, and respect for one another.
    • Ensure the safety and well-being of students during physical education classes, integrating principles of care, protection, and responsibility.
    • Promote, develop, organize, and execute PE focused school activities (sports day, extracurriculars).
    • Demonstrate confident communication skills with parents, students, and staff/co-workers.

     

    The salary range for this position is $57,000 – $100,773 (1.0 FTE) and is dependent on an applicant’s qualifications and experiences.
