    **Position Title:** STEM / ADST Specialist
    **Position Reports to:** Secondary School Principal
    **Works Closely With:** Associate Director of Learning & Innovation, Department Heads

     

    Position Overview

    Richmond Christian School is seeking a passionate and innovative STEM / ADST Specialist to join our secondary campus faculty. This full-time position involves teaching a range of courses within the ADST (Applied Design, Skills, and Technologies) and STEM disciplines. The successful candidate will play a key role in engaging students in hands-on, real-world learning experiences aligned with our mission to equip students to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

    As a school rooted in Christian faith and values, we are looking for an educator who models Christ-like character and integrates a biblical worldview into their practice. This position offers the opportunity to shape and grow our STEM and ADST program, leveraging platforms such as VEX Robotics, Fusion 360, and 3D printing technologies.

     

    Roles and Responsibilities

    The successful candidate will:

    • Plan, deliver, and assess instruction for ADST/STEM courses aligned with the BC Curriculum.
    • Teach courses such as Engineering, Robotics, Electronics, CAD/3D Design, or Computer Science as assigned.
    • Integrate Christian worldview and biblical perspectives throughout teaching and learning activities.
    • Engage students in the engineering design process and iterative project-based learning.
    • Maintain and manage equipment and resources (including VEX robotics kits and 3D printers).
    • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure curricular alignment and innovation across grades.
    • Contribute to co-curricular programs (e.g., robotics club, competitions, makerspace).
    • Communicate regularly with students and parents regarding progress and learning.
    • Participate in ongoing professional development and school-wide initiatives.
    • Support the school’s mission, vision, and community life through chapel, advisory, and school events.

    Required Knowledge and Skills

    We are seeking candidates who demonstrate:

    • Proficiency in engineering and design tools such as Fusion 360, Tinkercad, or SketchUp.
    • Experience with VEX Robotics platforms (VEX IQ or V5), programming, and competitions.
    • Familiarity with electronics, microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino, Raspberry Pi), or CNC technologies.
    • Experience with programming languages (e.g., Scratch, Python, JavaScript, or C++).
    • Understanding of the BC ADST curriculum, UDL principles, and inquiry-based learning.
    • Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.
    • A desire to mentor students and foster innovation, creativity, and critical thinking.

    Experience and Qualifications

    • A valid BC Teaching Certificate (or Independent School Teaching Certificate).
    • Legal authorization to work in Canada.
    • Relevant training or experience in STEM fields such as engineering, computer science, design, or robotics.
    • Experience in Christian education or commitment to a Christ-centred approach to teaching is preferred.
    • Prior teaching experience at the secondary level is an asset.
